Responding to overwhelming demand for the book Colours of Hope, which was first published by the RSG in 2003 and sold out last year, we have now reprinted new copies for sale.
“Colours of Hope: A Little Book by Roma Refugee Children for Everybody” is a pictorial book over 60 pages long written and illustrated by Roma refugee and asylum-seeking children from all over London. Unlike many other books dealing with refugee issues, Colours of Hope does not focus solely on racism and hardship. It also combines a range of topics, such as identity, impressions of life in London, family, culture and expectations for the future. The theme of the book sheds light on the aspirations, dreams and hopes of Roma children and it can be used in schools, libraries and other organisations to promote tolerance and a better understanding of this fascinating culture.

Roma Culture Workshops in Schools
The aim of the workshop is to promote and understanding of Roma culture by opening up access to Roma heritage to wider audiences, namely school children. These workshops create a wonderful opportunity and youth to join in and enjoy and practice the Roma dance routines. A workshop is usually attended by approx. 30 children, split between boys and girls with a teacher or teachers on hand to observe and maybe do a follow up visual art class.
Most of the workshop is taken up by the dance class. After the workshop is finished the pupils can then show off their newly found skills in front of assembly of children along with Roma men and women helping the pupils and showing the rest of the school their skills. A workshop is no longer than one hour and 30 minutes long.
Key Stage 1/2/3 can be adapted on request.
Cost: £350 per workshop (workshop time= 1 hr 30 min); additional travelling expenses required if out of London
For booking and enquiries, please phone 07930 500 971 and speak to Andy Ingmire or call the Co-ordinator on 07949 089 778.
I just wanted to say thank you very much for the copy of the Roma by Roma cd. I think it is a wonderful resource, showing as it does a range of experiences with a positive edge, I have shown parts of it to several groups now and it is the next best thing to having a Roma family in the room. Many thanks Liz

I am writing to thank you for sending 'Roma by Roma'. This will be an excellent resource to use when teaching about Roma people in schools. On a personal level, I found the film not only informative, but also very moving. Thank you!

‘Colours of Hope’ has given a voice to one of the most marginalised groups in our society, the children of refugees. It celebrates the literacy of young Roma growing up in Britain, and the energy, talent and creativity that they are sharing with the wider community to the benefit of us all”.

I just wanted to let you know that the DVD 'Be Roma or die tryin'' arrived and I have just watched it. I think it is really good and I liked the way it focused on some young people rather than trying to be too academic and factual. I hope to show it to my students in Milan even though they are quite young.

Thank you very much for Colours of Hope which I received today. What a lovely book! I like the way it gives information through the art and poetry. What I find so moving about the pictures and the poems is that although they arise from such sadness they carry such a positive and proud message.
I also think that the book is beautifully presented and just the right length for young people.
