Mishto Pledge for Charities

Charities across the UK have played and continue to play a key role in the successful settlement of the UK’s Roma communities.

Organisations in various parts of the UK have made significant efforts to ensure Roma people can access services and we are aware of the huge efforts they have made in this regard.

At the same time, we are aware there are many more brilliant organisations working day and night to improve the situation of the communities they represent. And we know Roma people would be in a much better position if they could access the services these organisations are providing.

The Mishto Campaign and the Mishto Pledge for Charities were developed to help develop the knowledge and skills some organisations need to ensure their services are more inclusive and accessible for those from the Roma communities.

We thank you for taking time to read about the Mishto Campaign.

To support charities to commit to the campaign we have created the Mishto Pledge for Charities and Mishto Guidance for Charities.

Please read them (by clicking the photos below) and/or share them with those who can make things happen.

Charities should send the following details to Mihai Bica of Roma Support Group at [email protected]:
  •  A link to a public statement by a representative expressing their commitment to the pledge indicating actions completed or planned which contribute to the Mishto Campaign aims. This can be done through the charity website or social media accounts.
  • Contact details of a named contact person.
  • Charity social media handles.
What happens after a charity signs the Mishto Pledge?
After signing:

  • The charity will be offered a Mishto Charity Certificate and be granted permission to use this publicly.
  • The charity will be provided with the Mishto Campaign Logo and be granted permission to use this publicly.
  • The charity’s named contact or other contact as relevant will be invited to join the Roma Rights Forum quarterly meetings

When able to demonstrate significant progress towards the Mishto Pledge commitments * :
  • The charity will be provided with the Mishto Quality Mark logo and granted permission to use this publicly.

* This can be immediately after signing the pledge if the school has already put in place measures as stated in the Mishto Pledge, or at a later stage when the local authority has made significant progress towards the Mishto Pledge commitments.

After the first year
  • After the first year the named contact person will be asked to fill in an online survey for campaign monitoring purposes.
