The 'Our Newham' Artbook

Picture
The 'Our Newham' Artbook was produced by the ‘Our Newham’ project funded by the Mayor of London’s Young Londoners Fund to support young people in Newham to identify, explore and tackle marginalisation in their communities.

The Artbook presents incredible works of art created by young people during the first phase of the project. Over eight months a cohort of young people from
Newham’s Youth Zones and the Roma Support Group worked with four wonderful artists: Laila Sumpton, Szymon Glowacki, Becky Warnock, and Heather Gani.

If you would like to receive a physical copy of the artbook you can do so
by making a donation of £15 or more at this link.

'Roma Stories' Roma Oral History Learning Resource

The 'Roma Stories' Roma Oral History Learning Resource consists of introductory information about Roma and consists of eight sections that can be used in Primary (KS2) and Secondary (KS3) schools. It might also be of interest to non-school audiences to build a broader understanding about Roma people. The Learning Resource includes classroom activities, short videos and interview extracts.

The Child protection section of our page of Resources for the Roma Community has more information about the toolkit.

Colours of Hope: A Little Book by Roma Refugee Children for Everybody

Picture
Responding to overwhelming demand for the book Colours of Hope, which was first published by the RSG in 2003 and sold out last year, we have now reprinted new copies for sale. A pictorial book over 60 pages long written and illustrated by Roma refugee and asylum-seeking children from all over London. Unlike many other books dealing with refugee issues, Colours of Hope does not focus solely on racism and hardship.  It also combines a range of topics, such as identity, impressions of life in London, family, culture and expectations for the future. The theme of the book sheds light on the aspirations, dreams and hopes of Roma children and it can be used in schools, libraries and other organisations to promote tolerance and a better understanding of this fascinating culture.

Key Stage 2/3
