Here is the press release from our orienteering trip to Lee Valley Regional Park in January 2015:
Young Roma enjoy orienteering in Lee Valley Regional Park
Lee Valley Regional Park Authority’s Youth and Schools service working with the Roma Support Group organised an orienteering session in River Lee Country Park on Saturday for young Roma from Newham.
The Roma Support Group is a Roma-led registered charity working with east European Roma refugees and migrants. This session was part of their programme to engage young Roma people and raise their aspirations with the Roma Support Group.
Karen Wheeler, Lee Valley Youth and Schools service Manager said: “Working with community groups such as this is very rewarding, the young people and their leaders really enjoyed the session and we hope to provide further sessions for them on the future.”
Luckily participants managed to miss the morning rain and high winds and had a clear afternoon to explore the park. The participants really engaged with the session and managed to achieve some great scores.
Since 1998 the Roma Support Group has been working with thousands of Roma families, offering them a variety of services; engaging the Roma community in all aspects of running and managing the organisation and promoting an understanding of Roma culture in the UK.
