Mental Health Advocacy Project (ended 2021)

Our five-year Mental Health Advocacy Project funded by the City Bridge Trust ended in 2021. The Self-Evaluation Report was published in July 2021:

​Our three-year Mental Health Advocacy Project funded by The King’s Fund ended in 2011. The research evaluation report was published in April 2012.

​Pacesetters Programme

Between 2009 – 2010 we worked closely with Newham NHS and East London NHS Foundation Trust in order to reduce health inequalities in the Roma population in East London. The Roma Mental Health Project and Roma Health Communication Project were run jointly by the RSG and London NHS. The evaluation report of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Pacesetter Programme was published in April 2010.

​Health Awareness & Advocacy

This project is run through our Advice & Advocacy Projects and dedicated team of volunteers who offer support for our clients in accessing NHS health services.

​Health Research Support

  • The Roma Support Group has contributed to the Health and Social Care Needs Assessment of Eastern European (including Roma) individuals commissioned by the Barking & Dagenham NHS and carried out by the University of East London. Health and Social Care Needs Assessment of Eastern European (including Roma) individuals living in Barking and Dagenham 2010 Final Report
  • The Roma Support Group has supported independent research aimed to build an understanding of the knowledge, beliefs and attitudes towards the hepatitis B and C  and their management in a range of high-risk minority ethnic communities and health professionals, in order to inform the design of a screening and treatment programme in primary care. This research was funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) under the Programme Grants for Applied Research programme published in the the journal BMC Health Services Research. Authors include: Lorna Sweeney, John A Owiti, Andrew Beharry, Kamaldeep Bhui, Jessica Gomes, Graham R Foster and Trisha Greenhalgh.
    Informing the design of a national screening and treatment programme for chronic viral hepatitis in primary care: qualitative study of at-risk immigrant communities and healthcare professionals.​
