 Why Roma Support Group?

As one of the main Roma-led charities in Britain, we have over 21 years of frontline experience in improving the social, political and economic position of Roma refugees and migrants in Britain. We draw on the knowledge and insight we have developed through our work to provide up-to-date case studies and expert guidance in our training sessions.

Why safeguarding training?

An increasing number of professionals are now involved with complex safeguarding cases concerning Eastern European Roma families.
Our training will equip you with the skills necessary to engage more effectively with Roma families, and knowledge that will increase your confidence and improve your decision-making abilities.
We do this through interactive presentations which:
  • Enhance understanding of the cultural history of Roma communities in a safeguarding context
  • Analyse barriers to accessing services
  • Identify culturally sensitive issues
  • Explore key safeguarding concerns affecting Roma children and adults
  • Develop practical tools for engagement and outline models of good practice

Who is the course designed for?

Those working with: children’s services; adult social services; family intervention and support;  schools; education welfare services; community health services; social housing; mental health services; probation; the police; and voluntary organisations.

Feedback

“I cannot praise it enough. You are all doing a wonderful job in raising awareness and offering hope to frontline staff. Without this, many frontline staff would fail to engage with Roma community.” Anonymous

“Brilliant, I have learnt a lot. I will be able to change my approach in working with the Roma community.” Social Worker, London Borough of Newham.
“Our officers and the rest of the audience (and me!) gained so much insight from it. Invaluable stuff.”
Hate Crime Coordinator, Investigation Standards & Development (ISD) Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
