Common health problems and vulnerable groups
The Core20PLUS5 initiative is a national NHSE England and Improvement approach to reducing health inequalities at both the national and system level, with the ‘PLUS’ element requiring Integrated Care Systems (ICS) to focus on population groups experiencing poorer than average access, experience and health outcomes. This guide has been developed to support integrated care systems in meeting this requirement by developing effective health inequality strategies to address barriers to care and unequal health outcomes for the Roma community.
We have identified several specialist areas of healthcare of particular concern for the Roma community, where there is either a high prevalence of specific health conditions, or barriers specific to the community that make it harder to access specialist care. Barriers and recommendations aimed at improving access to care in each area are outlined below.
For a more broadly applicable set of recommendations, please see the generalist part of the guide.
